Tobacco addiction is a touchy subject for any smoker to grasp, but the truth is many smokers alike are searching for a way to quit smoking cigarettes to ensure a healthy and long life. As a cigarette smoker myself, I have come to realize the negative affects my addiction has had on me mentally and physically. Smoking for me is not just a stress coping mechanism but, it has also developed into a security factor. I'm pretty sure many other smokers can relate. My article is not only going to be a solution for you the reader, but also a solution for me as well. For the many of you who choose to be nonchalant about your addiction that is a bad way to view it. Cigarettes claim millions of innocent people's lives a year, and maybe they did not have the means for help as we do today. If you don't know how to quit, that's what we are here for.
The first course of action in fighting this addiction is of course realizing the problem. You have to have a drive to want to be smoke free for any of my techniques to be of any help to you. As long as you have developed this drive of abstinence away from smoking we can continue.
Create a quit date- Visualize a date that you do not want to encompass this unhealthy habit. Many people make new years resolutions to quit that they never follow through with. The best date to choose is a date that is not too far away, personally you should try to pick a date that is 2-4 weeks away for the best results.
Curb your cravings-Whenever an annoying craving hits, focus on something else. Write down the craving and the time as well as what you were doing when it developed. This will help you develop a timeline of when your body feels it needs the nicotine. Take up chewing gum, running, or reading to occupy your mind away from the cigarettes.
Rearrange your routine- Many have found that if they change up their daily routine they find no time for a cigarette. If your structured this works very well for you. Many people do the same things everyday at the same time in a repetitive motion. Go outside your comfort zone and do a complete 360, instead of sitting in the same chair at breakfast change it up, things in that aspect.
Save your change- Set up a smoke jar, put all the money you would normally spend on cigarettes in a jar. Keep the jar in a visual place to remind you of all that money that went down the tubes so to speak for the years you may have smoked. The years for me is 7 years, at one point I was smoking 2 packs a day that means that in my 7 years of smoking I have probably spent close to $40,000, I could have saved that much and put it to good use instead of destroying my internal organs.
Get rid of the past- Throw away any memories of your precious cancer stick. Throw away your ashtrays, lighters. Clean your house from top to bottom to eliminate the smell of the smoke.
Post signs in your home- Every time you think about smoking look at these signs you create. Make the signs thoughtful, draw up reason why you wish you never began to smoke. Write the negative affects the nicotine has had on your body. Keep the signs visible, so whenever a craving creeps up on you. The signs can be your saving grace behind you not giving in to temptation.
Quitting smoking is a fight in itself. With will power however, it can be accomplished. I'm fighting the battle with all of you, and I believe we can beat this!
