You have been thinking of quitting smoking. It has been such a long time and the decision has finally been made. You do realize that you will need to re-organize your life and do things a bit differently, don't you? Of course you do.

The first thing you want to start changing is the "normal" routine you had when you were smoking. You can either do this quickly or through time. Either way, it has to be done. Start doing things differently once you quit than what you did while you were smoking. For instance, if you sat and watched television after a meal and had a smoke-take a walk instead-without the smoke. Start changing your routine and do it every day. Soon it will become a habit, just like smoking was.

You will find that within the first 10 to 15 days your body will detox itself of the nicotine and you will have to start doing things differently or go back to smoking. Which would you prefer? Once the nicotine is gone it's all about change, both physically and psychologically. Believe me, your emotions will play a big factor in your decision to stop smoking and changing your routine.

As I stated, change your regular routine. Once you begin thinking about not smoking and start doing it you will find it a lot easier to stop-and stay stopped. Vary what you do. Change the times you did things. Only this time do not have a cigarette in your hand. Start changing your thinking. Stay as positive throughout your day as you possibly can.

We all know that it is tremendously hard to stay positive all the time; you might even become a little depressed. All you have to do is try to think positive or about the good things in your life and you will be able to stop smoking cigarettes. If you find it very hard to be positive most of the day stay around people who will provide you great personal support and will help you. Let people know what you are doing and if they are really your friends they will support you in your efforts to quit smoking.

Most of all you need to help yourself. Make a firm commitment to stop smoking cigarettes and pick a day to stop. Follow-through with that and smile to yourself. Tell yourself you are doing it and it will happen. And do it day after day. Soon you will realize it has been a week and then a month. Get to that point and you will begin to have years of not smoking. It will be great.
